What kind of returns can I expect from trading and investing?
At Minipip we benchmark our performance against the S&P 500, as it represents the
combined performance of the 500 largest companies in the United States and is
widely viewed as a strong indicator of overall market returns. We consider it a useful
reference point: if you are beating it, you are likely outperforming the majority of
traders and investors; if you are matching it, that is still a solid result; and if you are
underperforming it, it is important to ask why and review your approach. This
perspective also applies during market downturns, helping traders understand
performance on the downside as well, something we cover in detail within our
academy.
Are my investments protected?
As long as the UK firm is FCA regulated, any monies held with that institution would
be eligible for FSCS protection, where up to £120,000 of client money is protected.
FCA-regulated firms also fall under the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS),
meaning that if you feel let down or dissatisfied with the service, you can escalate a
complaint to an independent third party for review. While the investments or trades
themselves will move with the market and are not protected, the cash held in the
account is protected under the scheme.
How much money do you need to start with?
You can begin your trading or investing journey with as little as £100. However,
because trading involves leverage, a topic covered heavily in our coaching, it is
generally more ideal to start with between £500 and £1,000, as this provides greater
flexibility when it comes to risk management. The more capital you have available,
the easier it is to diversify and spread risk across different positions. Disclaimer:

Why is the Academy Free?

brokers pay a referral fee which helps cover the cost of the allocated one-to-one
academy time with a coach, as well as access to a lite (free) version of the Online
Academy. Traders also have the option to purchase additional learning materials,
such as books and more advanced training courses, should they wish to further
develop their knowledge and trading skills.
